BARC’s aim is to match you with the perfect pet, to do this, we need to spend time with you and that’s why all adoptions are strictly by appointment only. We also require some information from you to help match you to a suitable new pet, please Download our pre-adoption questionnaire and send it to [email protected] at the time of making your booking, or you can bring it with you to your appointment. Alternatively, you can arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment time and complete a copy of the paperwork at BARC.

Adoption fees

The adoption fee helps the Bendigo Animal Relief Centre to cover a small part of the cost to make sure each animal is desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, health and behaviour checked to ensure it's ready to start a new and happy life.

More Information

To ensure you are ready to adopt a pet, we recommend you have a read of the average costs associated with owning a pet in Australia, and provide yourself with all the information you need to assist with settling in a new pet into your home. Bow Wow Meow has published “the ultimate guide to bringing a rescue dog into your home” which you may find is full of useful information and advice.

We also recommend perspective owners complete Petcademy’s free online “Adoption Fundamentals” training which will ensure that you give your new pet the best opportunity to feel comfortable in their new home, and establish a relationship with your new pet for the rest of their life.

All cats and dogs rehomed through BARC are treated for fleas and intestinal worms, desexed and vaccinated. BARC encourages responsible pet ownership, all adopted cats and dogs will need to be registered with the City of Greater Bendigo prior to leaving the shelter. You can read more about caring for your pet post adoption.
